List of Proceedings of Commissioners for Charitable Uses by the UK Public Record Office, HMSO, 1899 (Kraus Reprint, 1963). https://earlycharitylawsources.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/ListComsrsCharitableUses.pdf
This is a searchable PDF copy of a finding aid that lists all the decisions of the “commissioners for charitable uses” held in the UK National Archives, record group C93. It is a 141-page table, arranged by counties and regnal years, covering apparently the whole history of these ad hoc charity tribunals from about 1597 to 1787—whose decisions never made it into the case law followed by modern courts, but were definitely part of the cultural background.
Some 4,746 decisions are listed. Happily, the nature of the charitable entity in each decision is briefly labeled, so one can search for a wide variety of charity types. Using the reference numbers given in this resource, namely the record group C93, the “bundle number” and the case number, in the format “C93/bb/nn“, users can order (for a fee) a copy of any of these decisions from the UK National Archives.
Beware. They are handwritten, brown and difficult to read. Some are almost illegible.
